Senior Tax Accountant
Mason Tax, LLC is looking to add a Senior Tax Accountant to our team. You must have enough experience with S-Corps and Partnerships to prepare the return for minimal review and/or train others on preparation.
If you're looking for a chill but challenging job that you'll enjoy showing up to with clients that you'll actually enjoy working with, this is the place.
Our office in Williamsburg, flexible (very) hours, honest salary for honest work, potential to build your own book of business at a rapidly growing firm with a focus on young creative/tech entrepreneurs. We're also willing to teach you comprehensive fee-only financial planning under the umbrella of www.BrooklynFI.com if you're able to master the taxes and round out your skills.
Is this Big 4? No. We don't want people that want to work at a giant accounting firm. We want smart, self-driven people who can't wait to catch up with colleagues and have direct communication with the firm owner. I wrote this description. This is Shane.
Will you learn how to prepare a public corporation's 1120? No. We want people that are interested in preparing tax returns for small businesses where every deduction matters. Where there's an interesting story behind every LLC, partnership and s-corporation that comes in the door. There's no multi-state chemical engineering corporations here, only dynamic, nimble small businesses that are growing like Mason Tax.
Do we have the same benefits as that firm in 14 countries? No. But we'll figure something out for the right person. Being small means we can be more flexible.
This is not a normal accounting firm and never will be. This is a bastion for people that will vibe with the business partners who left the Big 4 and regional firms because man that sucked.
Here's a list of generic requests that I copied from another job listing. It's pretty good.
Skills and Experience:
BS Accounting or other relevant degree or combination of education and experience
Enrolled Agent licence and/or CPA Certification
Prepare individual (1040) and business tax returns (1120,1120’s,1065) and associated schedules and financial statements
Participation in preparing personal and business tax returns for a minimum of 2 tax seasons
Proficiency in related technologies; spreadsheets, tax prep and bookkeeping software (Proseries is a plus)
Analytical: Collect and research data, synthesize complex and diverse information
Organization: Design workflows and procedures to ensure deadlines are achieved
Working knowledge of general business practices and ability to demonstrate business and financial acumen
Ability to coach, train and assist in mentoring less experienced staff
Experience advising business entities, tax preparation, payroll and bookkeeping
So there you have it. If you feel stymied by the accounting industry's stuffiness in general and feel like I might have written this job description specifically for you then let's chat.
